Highlights from the very first wedding at this stunning Lancashire wedding venue

“Hi Mick, These are amazing thank you so much for everything! ”

Wennington Hall Wedding Venue

Wennington Hall is a brand new wedding venue located just north of Lancaster, near Wray and Hornby. Wennington Hall is a Grade II listed building, once a stunning stately home to Henry Marsden, a rich local MP, before becoming Wennington Hall School in 1954. It closed as a school in 2022, and was bought by James’ Places to be refurbished as this stunning wedding venue - giving me the opportunity to be the very first Wennington Hall Wedding Photographer!

It describes itself on the Wennington Hall website as:

“Perfectly nestled between the Lake District, Yorkshire Dales and Ribble Valley, and set within beautifully manicured gardens & grounds, stands our brand new wedding & celebration venue, Wennington Hall, where dreams will undoubtedly come true. This stunning new weddings and events venue will be the setting for picture perfect weddings in the delightful village of Wennington.

Featuring an impressive Main Hall, stunning indoor and outdoor spaces including terraces and acres of gorgeous gardens and grounds, Wennington Hall offers endless opportunities for wedding celebrations in the stunning Lune Valley. The function room, a large open space flooded with natural light from the huge arched windows, has a wedding capacity for up to 140 seated guests. The large space means that couples will be able to have a choice of seating layouts for their big day. Looking out on to a terrace surrounded by planters and offering feature lighting, the feel of this stunning space is perfect for wedding celebrations.

The building itself, with towers, turrets, spiral staircases and gothic arches galore is simply magnificent, and aims to be the most romantic and the most fun wedding and events venue in North Lancashire and South Lakes. The ambience and atmosphere will be beyond compare, the Lune Valley location, the setting and the amazing architectural details will ensure your photo opportunities are second to none…”

Wennington Hall Wedding Photographer

Corinne & Tom booked me to be their Wennington Hall Wedding Photographer around a year before their wedding day. Theirs was to be the very first wedding at this incredible venue, therefore making me the very first Wennington Hall Wedding Photographer. The venue is simply stunning and oozes character and history. The main building hosts the Garden Room, Lounge and Cocktail Bar - perfect for weddings up to 250 guests. The 17 acres of landscape are perfect for your Wennington Hall Wedding Photographer, no matter what time of year. This two-story Tudor-style Manor House offers a vast scope for indoor and out door wedding photos by your Wennington Hall Wedding Photographer. Corinne & Tom’s wedding was late May, and the weather wasn’t promising to be the best behaved - but that wasn’t going to spoil our party. As their Wennington Hall Wedding Photographer, we dodged the rain, photographed couples portraits and family group photos inside and out of this stunning venue. Nothing was missed…we just re-jigged the schedule slightly here and there to accommodate the weather.

Gateway to The Dales

Since this was to be my first time as a Wennington Hall Wedding Photographer, I couldn’t help thinking that this venue was perfectly positioned as a Gateway to the Dales, with Ingleton nearby, offering the route into the Yorkshire Dales National Park. Wennington isn’t a million miles away from the M6 north, with easy access to the Lower Lake District too. I’m originally from Lancaster & Morecambe, and it was great working ‘back home’ again with memories of those summer bike rides out into Hornby and Bentham when we were kids…(unbeknown to our parents at the time!). As you approach the main turn off for Wray and Wennington from the A6, you catch a glimpse of the stunning Hornby Castle ahead, setting the standard for the simply stunning landscape in the area. Again, perfect for a Wennington Hall Wedding Photographer if you fancied ‘going out’ for a few photos on the day.

Natural Wedding Photography at Wennington Hall

I really enjoyed my day producing natural wedding photography at Wennington Hall. This new addition to the James’ Places Dream Weddings portfolio was everything we expected. Pure class, pure quality with nothing left to chance. This was going to be a great addition to my portfolio as a Wennington Hall Wedding Photographer.

Corinne & Tom just to let the day flow and for me to ‘do my thing’. I travel light these days at weddings, using two cameras and four lenses - NO flash unless absolutely necessary as a Wennington Hall Wedding Photographer. The whole day was captured live and unstaged - apart from a few minutes of family group photos, which were hilarious as we battled the rain showers here and there. All part of being a Wennington Hall Wedding Photographer I guess…

The day ran like clockwork. I arrived really early to recce the venue and the grounds surrounding. My first chirpy face was that of the legendary Leslie-Ann, who was in charge for the day. And boy did she and the team have a great day….though worked tirelessly till late into the evening. Awesome teamwork; as they always are at James’ Places.

Here’s some of my favourite photos from the day…
